To celebrate our 150th anniversary, discover the iconic figures that shaped Garsou-Angenot and a fascinating anecdote about our early days with horses. This legacy reflects our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, while honoring our history and values.
As part of our celebration of 150 years, we are excited to present two new chapters in our history: the great figures who have shaped Garsou-Angenot over the generations, and a fascinating story about our early days with horses.
The Iconic Figures
The founder, Joseph Garsou, established the company on November 15, 1874, under the name "Joseph Garsou & Cie". One year after his marriage to Anne-Catherine Angenot, the company was renamed "Jos. Garsou-Angenot".
Growth and Development
After the founder's death in 1925, his son, Joseph, took over the reins of the company.
Under his leadership, Garsou-Angenot opened several offices:
- La Chapelle and Beaubru-Bouillon (French border)
- Sedan (French Ardennes)
- Aix-La Chapelle
Joseph had a total of... 7 daughters, which marked the end of the Garsou name in the company later on.
Upon his death in 1962, Eugène Immel, husband of Francine, one of the seven Garsou daughters, became the new leader and transformed the company into a SPRL in 1964.

The Horses, Heroes of Garsou-Angenot's Beginnings in Verviers
At its creation in 1874, Verviers was one of the most important woolen cities in the world. Garsou-Angenot naturally oriented itself towards this sector, primarily transporting wool bales.
The vehicles used were large carts pulled by horses. Transport primarily occurred within a limited area, "intra muros" in the city of Verviers. For more distant shipments, they were sent by rail from the Verviers freight station.
The Arrival of Trucks
In 1914, the company purchased its first trucks, enabling it to carry out its first international road transports to Aix-la-Chapelle, although it retained a majority of carts.
During World War II, activity was heavily reduced, but horses remained an essential means of transport. It was only after the conflict that they were definitively replaced by trucks, marking the end of an era.
